Text of My Speech

I am not a person who lets things go easily, yet I am not a person who holds grudges. I am not a hero that can save the world, yet I am not a villain who would let my friends down. I am not someone who doesn’t care about the world, but I am not the best recycler. I am not the kind of person who would throw my life away, but I am not the kind of person who makes perfect decisions.

Through my life there have always been ups and downs, but not once did I ever stop believing in what I could achieve throughout my future. I stayed strong to make sure that I realized that I can do anything if I put my heart and soul in it to make it happen. I’ve always had hopes, dreams, and goals, which means that I have goals as a 9th grader.

It’s always been my goal to get at least a 4.0 through all of my high school years. I also want to enjoy my time here. Some more freshmen goals of mine are to make more friends, make the best choices and decisions, complete many hours of community service, to do the best that I can, and to be the best person that I can be. But I don’t just have freshmen goals to complete.

I have future goals to accomplish as a sophomore, junior, senior, and college student. I want to get a license, take AP classes and do well in them, do well on my sports teams, and get reasonable amount of scholarships. I especially want to receive a scholarship to Stanford University, and there I will study to become a brain surgeon.

Most of my goals will take time but I will keep my patience, and I will always remember that my family will be there for me no matter what happens. As I recently read in the book Holes by Louis Sachar, “Nothing in life is easy. But that’s no reason to give up. You’ll be surprised what you can accomplish if you set your mind to it. After all, you only have one life, so you should try to make the most of it.”
